Our Vision

Vision of Westway Baptist
Proverbs 29:18, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
We believe that God has ordained and purposed this church for use in His kingdom. It is our Vision to lead people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ; welcome them into the fellowship of the church; teach them the Word of God, equip them to serve in ministry; and turn them loose fulfilling God’s mission for their lives. Here at Westway it is our desire to fulfill these five purposes: Worship, Ministry, Evangelism, Fellowship, and Discipleship. This is why we are here!

Biblical View for Worship
Deuteronomy 6:5, “And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
The church exists to worship God. It doesn’t matter whether we are by ourselves, in a small group, or with hundreds or thousands. When we express our love to the Lord, we are worshiping. The Bible tells us to, “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Matthew 4:10
Worship comes before service. To worship is the first purpose of the church. Throughout scripture we are commanded to celebrate the Lord and magnify His name. It’s not that we worship out of duty; but we worship because we want to.

Biblical View for Ministry
Matthew 22:39 “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
The church exists to minister to people. Ministry is demonstrating God’s love to others by meeting their needs and healing their hurts in the name of Jesus. Each time you reach out in love, you are ministering. The church is to minister to all kinds of needs: spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical. Jesus said that even a cup of cold water given His name was ministry and would not go unrewarded. The church is to, “perfect the saints for the work of MINISTRY…” (Ephesians 4:12)

Biblical View for Evangelism
Mark 16:15 “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.”
The church exists to communicate God’s Word. We are God’s ambassadors, and our job is to evangelize the world. It is every Christian’s responsibility to share the Good News everywhere we go. We are to tell the whole world of Christ’s coming, His death on the cross, His resurrection, and His promise to return. The Work of evangelism is vitally important. Christ actually gave us five great commissions, one in each of the Gospels, and one in the Book of Acts (Matt 28:19-20, Mark. 16:15, Luke 24:47-49, John 20:21, & Acts1:8). We are told to go and tell the world of the message of Salvation.
Evangelism is more than a responsibility, it is our privilege. God has given us the invitation to be a part of bringing people into His eternal family. There is no greater cause to be a part of. As long as there is one person in the world who does not know Jesus personally, the church has a mandate to share the Gospel.

Biblical View for Fellowship
Matthew 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”
As Christians we are called to Belong, not just believe. We are not meant to be lone-ranger believers, instead we are to belong to Christ’s family and be members of His Body. Baptism is only a symbol of salvation which the new believer has already experienced. It is also a symbol of fellowship. It is their first public testimony, and it announces to the world, “This person is now one of us!” We rejoice and welcome them into the family of God. We are not alone! We have each other to support. Each of us is a member of God’s very own family! Each of us belongs in God’s household with every other Christian. The church exists to provide fellowship for believers.

Biblical View for Discipleship
Matthew 28:20 “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
The church exists to edify, build up or educate God’s people. Discipleship is the process of helping people become more like Christ in their thoughts, feelings and actions. This process begins immediately when a person is born-again, and continues throughout the rest of his life. The church is called not only to reach people, but to teach people. It is the church’s responsibility to develop people to spiritual maturity.
