Can you believe it? It is 2018! It is a new year, but we are still the same person we were in 2017. The question is, “Are we satisfied with who we are?” As you look back on 2017 is there anything you would like to change; something you might want to do differently. Along the same line, but from a more positive view, what are the things that brought you joy and satisfaction with life in general? These are the things you should want to be an integral part of the New Year.
We call it a new year, but it is not a start over type of thing. It ought to be a continuation of following the Lord. All of us should evaluate 2018 with the blessings and the difficulties. We ought to mark those milestones we attained through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. But at the same time we will not dwell on the past for God has a plan even for the New Year.
Paul encourages us with these words:
“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. To the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.”  (Philippians 3:12-14, 16, NKJV)
None of us have “arrived”. When we look at ourselves, we don’t compare ourselves to others. This is a fatal mistake. We must compare ourselves to Jesus. He is perfection. Set your goals on achieving Christ-like perfection. How do you do that? Jest let Jesus become more and more in charge of your life. Let go and let the Holy Spirit mold you into that person He wants you to be in 2018. It is another step in your progress of sanctification. Just remember, God has a plan for you. Keep your eyes on Jesus and continue to follow Him.
